BOCOG announced on June 10, 2004 that
Volkswagen Group China had become the
automobile partner of the Beijing 2008
Olympic Games. BOCOG began soliciting
tenders for the automobile partnership in
November 2003. As BOCOG's first official
partner, Volkswagen will provide financial,
automobile and other forms of support for
the 2008 Olympics and Paralympics, as
well as Chinese sports delegation to the
2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. The
amount of the deal, though described as
being "considerable," was not disclosed.
Dr. Folker Weissgerber, Vice President of
Volkswagen's Board of Directors and President
of Volkswagen China's Board of Directors,
said, "We hope the 2008 Games will
offer us a chance to give something back to
society and to the Chinese people, whose
enthusiastic support we have enjoyed for
many years."

On its corporate Web site, Volkswagen
emphasizes sustainability in its model for
corporate activity: "...social and ecological
responsibility do not restrict entrepreneurial
freedom, but are a source of
expertise and indeed one of the driving
forces behind innovative problem-solving."
Volkswagen is a founding member of the
World Business Council for Sustainable
Development (WBCSD) and the European
Corporate Social Responsibility network
(CSR Europe), and also of econsense, the
sustainability forum of the German economy.
Volkswagen also supports the Global Compact and carries on a serious stakeholder
dialogue with Naturschutzbund
Deutschland (NABU), one of Germany's
most well-known environmental organizations.
Well-known rating agencies such as
Zurich's SAM Group confirm Volkswagen as
one of the "sustainability leaders" in its
industry. |

Legend Group became the first Chinese
company to become a TOP sponsor, with an
agreement signed on March 26, 2004 that

the cost of sponsorship would be repaid by
an upgrade to the Lenovo brand's international
